U.S. President Donald Trump spoke with the emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and stressed the importance of unity in fighting terrorism, the White House said on Friday, according to Reuters.

The two spoke on the phone on Thursday, according to the White House statement.

“The President underscored the importance of all countries following through on commitments from the Riyadh Summit to maintain unity while defeating terrorism, cutting off funding for terrorist groups, and combating extremist ideology,” the White House said.

The two also discussed the continued threat Iran poses to regional stability, the statement added.

Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt all severed relations with Qatar in June over allegations that it supports terrorism. Qatar denies the charges.

They later placed dozens of figures linked to the country on blacklists, including Egyptian cleric Yusuf al-Qaradawi, one of the spiritual leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood.

Trump has called for a diplomatic resolution to the crisis between Qatar and other Arab states, urging them “to maintain unity while fighting terrorism.”
