A passenger plane carrying 71 people crashed on Monday into a football field near an airport in Kathmandu, Nepal.

Seventeen people were rescued. At least 38 people died in the crash which occurred near Tribhuvan International Airport, while 23 others were injured. Ten people remain unaccounted for.

Local authorities said the crash occurred during landing, and was caused by a technical failure.

Of the 71 people on the plane, 67 were passengers, along with 4 crew members.

According to Sky News, the plane is believed to have taken off from Dhaka, Bangladesh.

"It was flying so low I thought it was going to run into the mountains," Amanda Summers, who witnessed the crash, told AP. "All of a sudden there was a blast and then another blast.”
