Zionist Union chairman Avi Gabbay on Tuesday slammed the agreement reached between the coalition parties which prevented early elections.

"The citizens of the state are the losers in the cancellation of elections. Today we received another illustration of the culture of government corruption, the loss of values, and the non-existent moral backbone of the coalition parties, which again agreed to serve as the oxygen balloon of a self-centered prime minister," he charged.

"We are sick of politicians who think only of themselves and are willing to sell the most basic values and deal only with their own best interests," continued Gabbay.

"Today we discovered who is really afraid of elections,” he said, responding to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu who asserted on Monday that the opposition was afraid of elections. “But do not be confused, the days of this bad government are very short. The next ‘crisis’ meant to cover the prime minister’s investigations is only a matter of time."

"I am not losing hope," Gabbay said. "When I resigned from the Netanyahu government following Liberman's appointment as defense minister, I promised myself that I would devote the rest of my public work to changing the corrupt political culture that has been established here as a norm."

"I promise you that we will fight the crooked and immoral culture of Netanyahu and his partners. We will continue to prepare for elections. We will arrive prepared, at any time, to replace this corrupt government and to lead Israel back to the right path and to heal the rifts that Netanyahu and his friends created among the people,” he stressed.

In conclusion, said Gabbay, "I believe wholeheartedly, even if it takes a little more time! Hope will defeat fear, the honest will defeat the corrupt and the truth will defeat the small and cynical politics. I believe in our people. They will bring victory, and we will bring about the change that so many people wish for."
