The UN Security Council debate on the Palestinian issue and the security situation in the Middle East has begun. The debate is led by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

Israel's ambassador to the UN, Gilad Erdan, tried to change the date of the debate so that it would not be held on Israel's Memorial Day.
