Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir on Sunday accused Iran of “interfering in the Middle East’s affairs”, Al Arabiya reports. Jubeir, who was speaking at a joint press conference with his Egyptian counterpart, also said that the Islamic Republic is supporting terrorism. He stressed that his country will not stand idly in the face of Iran’s meddling in the region’s affairs. "We refuse Iran's actions, the instigating actions that Iran is taking, the negative actions and its support of terrorism,” said Jubeir. “We are looking forward for the day when we can build strong relations with Iran. However, this depends on Iran's behavior and whether it stops intervening in the region's affairs, stops supporting terrorism, stops taking procedures that harm the region's interest and the people's interest. So this is in Iran's hands,” he added, according to a report by Reuters . Saudi Arabia, which is Iran’s biggest rival in the region, is leading a campaign against Yemen's Houthi rebels, who are allied to Tehran. The kingdom is also a leading supporter of the rebels trying to topple Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad, while Iran has openly supported Assad and has provided him with assistance in the fight against the rebels. Saudi Arabia is also among Arab governments that have repeatedly expressed their concern about the terms of a potential nuclear deal with Iran, warning that a final agreement could allow Iran to keep the technologies needed to produce nuclear weapons. Saudi Arabia’s former Foreign Minister recently said that Iran should not be given “deals it does not deserve”. The Arab concern over the deal with Iran is actually shared with Israel, as Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has repeatedly warned against the framework agreement. The concern in Saudi Arabia over the nuclear deal with rival Iran is so great that a columnist in a Saudi-controlled government newspaper recently expressed support for Netanyahu’s warnings against a deal with Iran.
