The Hizbullah terrorist organization announced Friday it will soon avenge the February assassination in Damascus of its second-in-command, Imad Mughniyeh. A member of the guerrilla group’s leadership in southern Lebanon, Sheikh Ahmed Murad said, “Great surprises are in store. We will not let Israel and its generals enjoy stability.” Israel’s National Security Council published a worldwide warning this week to Israelis abroad to be on the alert for a Hizbullah terror attack. “The Hezbollah organization is unremitting in its efforts to attack Israelis throughout the world, with its emphasis on kidnappings,” it read. The Counter-Terrorism Bureau is calling on Israelis abroad to act accordingly: • Heighten awareness and sensitivity towards any unusual circumstances or phenomena. • Turn-down unexpected and alluring proposals in both business and recreation. • Avoid allowing entrance to your hotel room or apartment by unexpected or suspicious visitors. • Avoid staying at secluded locations, especially during hours of darkness. • Insist on being accompanied by someone you trust when attending business meetings or while at recreation. • Alter your routine and habits occasionally, if on a prolonged stay in one place: Switch hotels, travel routes, restaurants and recreational spots. Hizbullah commander Imad Mughniyeh was visiting Syria for high-level talks with Damascus-based Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal when he was eliminated, according to the London-based Ash-Sharq il-Awsat newspaper. Mughniyeh had traveled from Tehran to the Syrian capital in late January, apparently under a pseudonym , in order to discuss the situation in Gaza. The newspaper also reported that Mughniyeh met with senior Syrian security officials shortly before the assassination. Top Syrian presidential aide Brigadier-General Mohammed Suleiman, who reportedly coordinated weapons deliveries with Mughniyeh, was also assassinated at the beginning of this month. According to a report published by The Times of London , Suleiman, a key person in President Bashar Assad's regime, supplied the Hizbullah terrorists with the advanced SA-8 anti-aircraft missile system.
