The World Likud held a cornerstone-laying ceremony Wednesday for a new neighborhood in eastern Jerusalem, named Nof Tzion, near the neighborhood of Jabel Mukabar. Attending the ceremony were members of a delegation of Jewish Americans, some of whom are interested in buying real estate in the neighborhood. The group also included several Democratic party activists, and was led by Assemblyman Dov Hikind of New York. E-mail viewers, click here to view the video! Hikind mentioned the demands that Israel cease construction in areas liberated in 1967 and asked: "Are they out of their minds in Washington? It just absolutely doesn't make sense.” If Jews and Arabs are going to make peace then there should be no problem for them to live side by side, he explained, and if they are not going to make peace, then any concessions by the Jews are “insanity.” The neighborhood will include 400 housing units on an area of 114 dunams (114,000 square meters). MK Danny Danon (Likud), who is also Chairman of the World Likud, said: “We are telling President Obama the Jewish people have the right to live and to build in Jerusalem... We will build in Jerusalem. That is exactly what we are doing here today.” In his speech, he added: “Our duty is to the nation, that chose to deepen settlement in all of Judea and Samaria and of course, Jerusalem. We will discharge our duty even at a price of ignoring Obama and his advisers.” A leftist crowd demonstrated againt the ceremony nearby.
