The Israel-based Coalition of Women for Peace has sent a letter to MK Tzipi Livni, who served as Israel’s Foreign Minister during last year’s counter-terrorism offensive in Gaza, siding with those who wish to have her arrested by British authorities for her role in the war. MK Livni received notice of a warrant for her arrest in Britain this week. The Coalition of Women sent her a translation of the Goldstone Report on Wednesday, and explained in an attached letter, "We are convinced that if you refer to the report, you will understand why British citizens and organizations have turned to the courts with a request to issue a warrant for your arrest." The Coalition quotes Livni as having said, on January 13, 2009, that "we have proven to Hamas that the equation has been altered. Israel is a state that, when its citizens are shot at, will respond insanely. And that's a good thing." The Coalition wholeheartedly supports the Goldstone Report’s conclusions accusing Israel of war crimes – although the report was overwhelmingly condemned by many bodies, including, for instance, the U.S. House of Representatives. In a 344-36 landslide vote, the House describes the report as “irredeemably biased and unworthy of further consideration or legitimacy," and called upon President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to “continue to strongly and unequivocally oppose any endorsement of the [report] in multilateral fora.” Women Suffered, Women Advise Livni to Give In The women’s group emphasized in its letter to Livni that Goldstone focused on "the way the military operations affected women particularly adversely… Women suffered most of all from the attack which you helped lead, and for which you served as the international spokesperson.” "As a feminist organization active in Israel,” the Coalition continued, “we consider that only a process of legal investigation and prosecution of war criminals by the international community has the power to bring a measure of justice to the women and men of Gaza.” “In our opinion,” the women advised Livni, “the correct reaction on your part to the Goldstone Report would be a coming to terms with the wholesale murder with which you collaborated freely as a senior minister in the Israeli government as part of an election campaign. We call on you to cooperate with any international investigation that may be opened against you and to counsel your colleagues in the government and military to do the same.” Response In response, the pro-family Familism organization released this statement: "Feminism is a subversive neo-marxist movement posing as a human rights movement, and it seeks to undermine everything that makes our society strong, including the 'macho' military. In situations like this, when a hardcore feminist movement sides openly with a misogynistic murderous thugocracy like Hamas, the absurdity, the lies and the sheer lunacy of the feminist creed come into plain view. "The 'Coalition for Peace' has yet to make a single statement regarding the suffering that Hamas's missiles have caused women and children in Sderot and the Gaza Belt, although these are precisely the groups that are most vulnerable to Kassam rocket terror."
