MK Yariv Levin (Likud) has fired off a letter to Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein imploring him to prevent MK Hanin Zouabi (Balad) from leaving Israel in order to participate in the next flotilla to Gaza. Zouabi has stated her intent to board the flotilla, as she did in the case of the previous one, which ended in a bloodbath . “I request that the honorable [Attorney General] act in order to ascertain that MK Zouabi will not be able to take part in the planned flotilla events, including by preventing her leaving Israel,” Levin wrote Weinstein. Levin criticized Weinstein for dawdling in putting Zouabi on trial for her participation in the previous flotilla, although over a year has passed since. “Although the investigation is a relatively simple one and the facts have mostly been known to the entire public for a long time, the esteemed Attorney General has not given a decision in the matter to date,” he wrote. “I think that the delay in reaching a decision in this matter is unjustified and projects weakness, a lack of consistence and a lack of determination by the law enforcement authorities and legal system vis-a-vis Zouabi’s severe and provocative behavior.” Levin's committee stripped Zouabi of some of her parliamentary privileges immediately after the Gaza flotilla. Weinstein has, in the past, not ruled out stripping Zouabi of her Israeli citizenship, but has taken no steps in this direction either.
