Thousands of people from a variety of different backgrounds were in Jerusalem on Monday night and Tuesday for Tisha B'Av, the fast commemorating the destruction of the Jewish Temples in Jerusalem. The First Temple, built by the Biblical King Solomon, was destroyed by the Babylonian empire some 2,500 years ago. The Second Temple was destroyed by the Roman Empire in 70 CE. The following is a glimpse into the day of mourning for the loss of the Holy Temple and other calamities which took place on this date.
