The average salary in Israel throughout 2013 was NIS 9,204 (about $2,600) per month, before taxes, the Central Bureau of Statistics said Thursday. Of those employed in Israel, 3,179,000 were paid regular monthly salaries, with the rest either unemployed, or working as entrepreneurs or private contractors. The unemployment rate in Israel at the close of 2013 was about 6%, a twenty-year low, the CBS announced last month. The CBS said that statistics showed that the salaried job market was stable. Salaries have been going up, as well; compared to November-December 2012, salaries were 2.3% higher a year before, and the year-on-year increase for September-October was 3%. With that, some areas and industries did better than others. In the communications industry, real salaries (nominal salary raises taking into account inflation) were up 10.6% in 2013 compared to the year before, with salaries in October through December 14% higher than the same period in 2012. Miners, on the other hand, salaries went in the opposite direction, going down 10.6% in the September-December period.
