The brother of a man who attacked police in France has been arrested in Burundi, a local intelligence spokesman said Tuesday, according to The Associated Press (AP).
Burundi intelligence spokesman Telesphore Bigirimana said that Brice Nzohabonayo was arrested Saturday after his brother, Bertrand Nzohabonayo, attacked French police in a suburb of Tours, leaving two officers seriously injured.
The attacker was shot dead by police. He reportedly shouted "Allahu Akbar" while running over the police officers.
Bigirimana said intelligence services had been tipped off about the brothers' movements since 2013. He said the two moved between France and Burundi and there were concerns about how radical they had become after converting to Islam.
France has seen a number of similar attacks in recent days, the latest one having taken place on Monday, when a van rammed into shoppers at a Christmas market in the western city of Nantes, injuring at least ten people.
The driver charged at a chalet in a stall serving hot wine, in front of which several people were gathered. A local newspaper said the driver, who is being identified as either age 25 or 44, shouted "Allahu Akbar" before plowing into the large crowd of seasonal shoppers at the market.
On Sunday, a mentally ill man yelled "Allahu Akbar" before ramming his vehicle into dozens of pedestrians in the eastern French city of Dijon. 13 people were injured in that incident, which has been ruled to have no link to terrorism.
