Minister of Justice of Ayelet Shaked (Jewish Home) will request that a vote be held today in the Ministerial Committee for Matters of Legislation on the so-called “Normalization Law,” which seeks to provide legal backing for Jewish settlement in Judea and Samaria. Shaked, however, is expected to encounter opposition to the law’s passage by the Prime Minister, who, by agreement of the coalition, holds veto power on Committee votes. The purpose of bringing the law to a vote comes after what Minister of Education Naftali Bennett (Jewish Home) called the “foot-dragging” of the Prime Minister towards the advancement of policies in lieu of legalizing the community of Amona, set to be demolished, once and for all. Bennett noted to Army Radio that “we tried other means, unfortunately there was foot dragging - this is the duality, that they tell us on the one hand to ‘wait with the Normalization Law, let’s solve this in another way,’ and on the other hand there’s foot dragging for those other ways. Fine, so we’ll advance the Normalization Law, then.” Bennett emphasized that he expects the entire Likud faction to support the law. “We have got to normalize settlement in Judea and Samaria already.”
