Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman visited the site where the new town of Amichai is being constructed for the evacuees of Amona Wednesday.
The Defense Minister addressed the issue of construction in Judea and Samaria. "I am aware of the debate that arises if builders do not build, [those who are supposed to] confirm do not confirm, how much and why. We are at the site of Amichai, and given the work being done here right now, it's time to just tell the truth. We are working at a pace that has not been since 2000."
"We examined the data from 2000," Liberman added. "When we address the facts, then there are also 300 units in Beit El and 3,000 units approved for construction, as well as other permits for plans which are at several points [in the planning process], We have arrived at statistics which we have not seen for a long time."
When asked about the security arrangements for the Jewish communities of Judea and Samaria, he said: " At the moment there is no budget source, and there is still a lot which needs to be done in the course of 2018."
He also tried to justify the situation. "It is necessary to understand that a settlement like Halamish, where there was a terror attack, and it was possible to prevent the murder of the Salomon family. The same thing happened in Otniel with Dafna Meir. 23 Jews have been murdered on the Beit Hagai-Otniel road. The terrorists know better than we do where there are no telephones, and where there is no lighting. They choose [to attack] in the problematic places."
The Defense Minister noted that the advance work has been completed for the paving of new bypass roads in Judea and Samaria. "We will never be able to satisfy 100 percent of all demands. At the end of the day, things work out and there ill be no issue with funding. We have to find the right tools between the Interior Ministry and the Binyamin Council. We are in a situation where a comprehensive plan for security in Judea and Samaria is being formulated. It consists of six large sections including bypass roads and everything else that is required."
