Video of first lighting - Courtesy of Eli Aviv Lag Ba’omer celebrations commenced Wednesday evening at the burial site of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai in the northern Israeli town of Meron. Tens of thousands of people are in the mountainous area, participating in the traditional celebrations and torch-lightings of the various Hasidic sects. According to custom, the first lighting was performed by the Boyaner Rebbe, amid the singing and dancing of hundreds of his followers. According to estimates, and despite the heavy heat, hundreds of thousands of people are expected to visit Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai's gravesite during the celebrations.
