A group of municipal council leaders from Judea and Samaria met yesterday (Sunday) with Prime Minister Netanyahu and heard from him a detailed report on the process of the application of sovereignty. Efrat Mayor Oded Revivi, one of the council heads who initiated the meeting, said that he wants to be able to explain to his constituents what is really happening beneath the surface. "The prime minister said two important things: that the negotiations with the Americans are not over, the maps are not yet formulated and therefore there is nothing to show and hide nothing from anyone. As soon as things are finalized, they will be presented in the most detailed way," Revivi told Arutz Sheva. "The other thing is that, since things are not coherent and summarized, the prime minister answered the question of some of the mayors why they only settle for 30% of the area and do not ask for more. That number is not absolute and just as we want to increase it, there are pressures to reduce it," Revivi said. According to him, the conditions were not optimal, and the point where the sovereignty outline could be presented is not yet near. "The window of time is well known and clear to everyone. The US election will not be postponed because we are unable to reach agreement on the outline. It was a clear and well-known interest to begin the move in terms of the essential steps even before the US election. We are explicitly told that there is a window of opportunity for several weeks and that all understandings of these issues must be reached within this time span - of weeks," Revivi explained. Some of his critics say that sovereignty can be applied even without American consent, to which Revivi responded: "It is impossible to apply sovereignty in the global situation today without the support of one of the powers that can guarantee a veto in the Security Council the next day. The Prime Minister makes it clear that the US has to agree and I believe him." He also answered criticism from the heads of the Yesha Council who disagree. "When I talk to people who disagree, I always try to understand their position. In this case, it's hard for me to understand the criticism, even though I listen to it with great attention and understand where it came from. Some of the criticism comes from ideological reasons that I find a little difficult to deal with because discourse has to be on a pragmatic level." "Some of the concern stems simply from a lack of understanding and these things were already raised at the first meeting with the prime minister, who told them the map they were displaying was incorrect. Just unnecessary intimidation. All the delegates outside the areas to which Israeli law applies will continue to be open and the IDF will continue to secure them. We as leaders need to bring citizens the truth. The Yesha Council has in the past led campaigns [to apply sovereignty] to Ma'aleh Adumim first and in the Jordan Valley first. "It is clear to me that there is an opportunity here and we need to see that we are realizing it and how we later continue to alleviate the concerns and concerns that the members raise. We say: Let's take what they give and then continue to worry about what we did not receive," Revivi adds. He further pointed out that the struggle of the Soviet leaders should get the right framework. "We sometimes tend to forget. We are local councils and above us there is a government and a prime minister who should dictate the policy at the national level and certainly in international relations. And the prime minister has to look after the interests of the entire state. He can hear us but he doesn't have to get everything we want."
