Yesha Council chairman David Elhayani on Wednesday called on US President Donald Trump to support Israeli sovereignty in Judea and Samaria and the Jordan Valley. "I call on US President Donald Trump, who in his important actions for the State of Israel in recent years, with his administration staff, has proven to be a true friend of Israel, to also support now a sovereignty move that would be good for the State of Israel," said Elhayani. "The people of Israel have the right to promote the application of Israeli law to Judea, Samaria and the Jordan Valley, as would be the right thing to do - without a Palestinian state or a construction freeze and isolated settlements. Applying sovereignty is the right move," the Yesha Council chairman added. Earlier on Wednesday, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo indicated that applying sovereignty in areas of Judea and Samaria and the Jordan Valley was a decision that was up to Israel. "Decisions about Israelis extending sovereignty to those places are decisions for the Israelis to make," Pompeo told reporters. He was speaking moments after the United Nations and the Arab League joined in calling for Israel to abandon its plans to declare sovereignty. The call was made during a UN Security Council video conference in which several government ministers participated. "I call on the Israeli government to abandon its annexation plans," said UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres. He reiterated what he presented as a goal of a two-state solution with an independent, contiguous, sovereign and viable Palestinian state, with Jerusalem as the capital of both states. Arab League secretary general Ahmed Aboul Gheit said sovereignty "will destroy any prospect for peace in the future." "The possible move by the Israeli government to annex parts of the occupied Palestinian territory would constitute, if implemented, a serious threat to regional stability," he added.
