David Mamet, a well-known liberal playwright and screenwriter who has turned conservative in recent years, explained in a recent interview why it is so difficult for U.S. Jews not to vote Democrat.

Mamet traced the root of the problem to the fact that U.S. Jews are mostly Reform Jews, for whom Judaism is simply "doing good deeds," which basically comes down to following "the herd." Since "the herd" says that voting Democrat is what good Jews do – disobeying it "feels like treason, and it feels like heresy."

Israel has been fighting the battles of the West, Mamet said. "Whatever happens to Israel, is going to happen to America."
