The 13th Conference of the Puah Institute for Halakhah and Medicine took place Wednesday at Yeshurun Synagogue in Jerusalem.

Unlike last year's conference, this one did not involve boycotts and threats from other groups, the way last year's conference did.

Participants included senior rabbis and physicians, including  Rabbi Yisrael Meir Lau,  who is Chief Rabbi of Tel Aviv, Rabbi Dov Lior,  Rabbi of Kiryat Arba, Rabbi Yaakov Ariel, Rabbi of Ramat Gan, Dr. Menachem Neuman and Rabbi Aryeh Stern, National Religious candidate for Jerusalem Mayor.

Topics discussed included determining the sex of the unborn baby, ultrasound as a life-saving device, and new fertility treatments.

Last year, the Puah Institute held a conference intended for a hareidi audience, about women's medical problems. The speakers were all men, and this prompted anger by feminist organizations and demands that female professionals be represented among the speakers.
