The driver of a truck has been killed and two others lightly injured in a collision between two trucks near the Nizanei Oz interchange on Israel's north-south Route Six.
The fatality was identified as one of the truck drivers. He had stopped at the side of the highway to change a punctured tire. Magen David Adom paramedics said he had been hit by a second truck. After failing to resuscitate the driver, paramedics declared him dead at the scene.
The man, age 45, is thought to be a resident of the north. Medical assistance was given to another man, also 45 years old, who had been helping the driver to change the tire.
Medics also gave treatment to the 29-year-old driver of the second truck, who was suffering from shock.
MDA paramedic Tzipi Felixson said "People at the scene explained that the first truck, a garbage disposal vehicle, had stopped at the side of the road to fix a flat tire, when the second truck suddenly crashed into it, running over the driver and a second man who was with him. The driver was thrown to the hard shoulder."
The driver of the second truck, a resident of a lower Galilee village, was taken to hospital to receive further treatment, as was the injured friend of the driver who was killed.
