At least five people have been killed and 39 others injured in Turkey, as a car bomb exploded next to a police station in Cinar, a town located in the province of Diyarbakir. The raid is being blamed on the Kurdistan Worker's Party (PKK), according to a statement made by the provincial governor's office on Thursday. Reuters reports that the attack took place on at 11:30 pm on Wednesday night. "It was a really loud blast, as if it was in our house," said Ali Devran, a resident in his 30s near the scene. "We went and helped carry the wounded to ambulances. Some suffered burns." Combining the bombing with gunfire, PKK fighters began shooting on a nearby security complex. A firefight with the police ensued, but no further casualties were reported. Among the dead are two relatives of police officers, and six police officers are reportedly injured. The PKK has been designated as a terrorist group by Turkey, the United States and the European Union. Turkey's southeast region which is mainly Kurdish, has been hit by a wave of violence since the peace deal between the state and the PKK collapsed in July of 2015.
