גלעד שליט לערוץ 7: אודה למשפחת וקסמן כל חיי

Gilad Shalit, the IDF soldier who was held captive by the Hamas terror group for five years and who was freed in exchange for over 1,000 convicted murderers, spoke to Arutz Sheva after the passing of Yehuda Wachsman.

Speaking at Wachsman's funeral, Shalit told Arutz Sheva that the Wachsman family agreed to free the terrorist who was involved in the murder of [their son] Nachshon, as part of the terrorist agreement which lead to Shalit's release from Hamas captivity.

"I heard many stories from people who knew Yehuda and from my family, about how noble he was, about the help, and about the fact that the Wachsman family 'compromised' on that the terrorist should sit in an Israeli jail, agreeing that he should be released in my deal," Shalit said.

"It really influenced the deal, and I will thank Yehuda for my entire life."

He added: "It's not self-understood. I really owe him a lot of gratitude. I heard a lot of eulogies about his many deeds, he was really a very impressive person. It's very sad that he ended his life this way."

Several of the "Shalit deal" terrorists have gone on to carry out additional terror attacks, murdering more Israelis.
