Tragedy struck on Thursday morning in Tel Aviv when a woman who was apparently having a severe medical episode, fell from the platform at Tel Aviv's Savidor train station and was run over by a passing train.

Eyewitnesses said the woman was suffering from severe convulsions and fell on the tracks only seconds before a train pulled in, crushing her beneath it.

An MDA team that arrived at the scene pronounced the woman dead.

The police department stated: "This morning, we received a report of a woman in her forties who fell onto the train tracks at the Savidor train station in Tel Aviv, it would seem as a result of a medical episode. Medical authorities at the scene pronounced her dead. Police officers are at the scene and are investigating."

Israel Railways is advising the public to expect delays in the Tel Aviv area.
