In a statement addressing today's special session of the United Nations Security Council on the issue of Jewish growth in Judea and Samaria, Samaria Regional Council head Geshon Mesika said: "Our rights to live and build in Yehuda and Shomron [Judea and Samaria] are historical and biblical, The Torah states that this land was promised to our fathers Avraham, Yitzchak, Yaakov and Yosef HaTzadik. History is acting out the words of the prophets, who foresaw our return to the land." "We did not come here as result of a UN resolution and we will not leave because of one. The special session of UN security council today is anti-Semitic in nature and totally irrelevant to us," he stated. "The Jewish towns under my jurisdiction in the Shomron have no vacant homes or apartments and all have long waiting lists of young families eager to move in. We will not be intimidated by councils and their special sessions, we are here to stay and will continue to exercise our God given right to grow and develop our towns," Mesika added. 'Impediment to peace' The Security Council is holding a debate Friday regarding the growth of Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria. The Palestinian Authority claims Judea and Samaria as its own, and demands that all Jews be forced out as part of any future peace deal with Israel. The meeting was called following a request from the Arab League, which has called Israeli towns in Judea and Samaria an impediment to peace. Representatives from the Arab League will speak at the meeting, and Israeli diplomats are expected to respond afterward.
