Unit 669 is the Israel Defense Israel Defense Forces heliborne Combat Search & Rescue extraction unit. Originally started to extract downed pilots, its responsibilities have widened to include evacuating injured soldiers under enemy fire, and rescuing stranded hikers. Operators in 669 pass the longest training course of any special forces unit, and are required to serve one and a half years more than regular IDF soldiers.
