A roadside bomb hit a tourist bus in an area near the Giza Pyramids in Egypt on Friday, killing three people and wounding at least 11 others, according to The Associated Press.

Egyptian security officials said the bus was traveling in the Marioutiyah area near the pyramids when the roadside bomb went off.

According to reports, the dead includes two Vietnamese tourists and an Egyptian tour guide. An interior ministry statement said 10 other tourists from Vietnam and the Egyptian bus driver were wounded.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry said it was not aware of any Israeli citizens being on the bus at the time of the explosion.

Egypt has been fighting an insurgency in the Sinai Peninsula for several years. Most of the attacks in the region during this time period have been claimed by the Sinai Province, Egypt's ISIS affiliate.

The country has been under a state of emergency since April last year, after two suicide bombings at churches claimed by ISIS killed at least 45 people in the cities of Tanta and Alexandria.

In February, Egypt launched operation “Sinai 2018” in an effort to rid the Sinai Peninsula of Islamic terrorists.
