The IDF's Lions of the Valley mixed-gender battalion held its first ever training exercise as a unit last week.
The Lions of the Valley battalion was established in 2015, and protects the border between Jordan and Israel. Unlike the majority of the IDF's infantry battalions, it is only tasked with guarding the Jordan Valley, and does not rotate to other areas.
The unit was formed as part of an IDF decision to entrust routine border security to mixed-gender units, in order to free up elite infantry units to focus on training.
