An apartment building in the central city of Lod was evacuated Wednesday due to suspicions that an explosive device had been planted on the roof of one of the apartments, Maariv reported.

Police arrived at the building, located on Lod's Eli Hacohen Street, following reports of a suspicious object on the roof of one of the apartments in the city, and located the object, which was suspected to be an explosive device.

Residents were evacuated from the building to allow a police sapper to neutralize the threat and prevent a danger to lives, if the object was indeed an explosive device.

After the sapper had completed his task, Israel Police began investigating the circumstances.

Initial investigations revealed that the apartment in question is occupied by a Sudanese foreigner. Investigations are now underway regarding whether the object was an explosive device and how it ended up on the roof.
