Alternate Prime Minister Naftali Bennett on Sunday accused opposition leader Benjamin Netanyahu of causing a years-long crisis in Israel-Jordan relations with a picture he posted to Instagram, Channel 12 News reported.

During the weekly Cabinet meeting, Bennett said: "There was a severe rift with Jordan for years because my predecessor in the position uploaded a tweet to Instagram with a picture with a security guard who accidentally killed a Jordanian. For a post on Instagram - we damaged the relationship with Jordan for years."

Bennett referred to an incident from 2017 when a security guard for the Israeli embassy in Amman shot dead a Jordanian worker who had come to an apartment to install furniture and who stabbed him in the back with a screwdriver.

A second Jordanian, the apartment landlord, was accidentally killed in the incident as well.

During the Cabinet meeting Sunday, the ministers approved the construction of a joint Israeli-Jordanian industrial zone.
