Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is reportedly considering traveling Ben Gurion Airport via helicopter on Thursday as opponents of the government's planned judicial reforms are planning a second 'Day of Disruption that day.
Kan News reported that this time, one of the focal points of the protests will be Ben Gurion Airport, from which Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to depart for a diplomatic visit to Italy on Thursday. Protestors are reportedly planning to block the roads leading to the airport, and arriving by air is necessary for Netanyahu to board his flight on time.
The disruptions caused by the protestors may not affect just the prime minister's flight, but the flights of tens of thousands of Israelis and tourists who will be flying out of the country during the time of the protests.
The headquarters of the protests against the judicial reform said n a statement that "on Thursday, hundreds of protests will be held across the country against the legislation of dictatorship. Among the measures will will take are marches, protests, demonstrations, and disruptions across the country as were held last Wednesday, as well as new protest measures."
"The more the government tramples [democracy], we will overcome and protect Israeli democracy. We will put a stop to the destruction of Israeli democracy with our bodies and souls," the headquarters claimed.
Last Wednesday, on the first 'Day of Disruption,' protestors blocked roads across the country, including on Route 1 near the entrance to Jerusalem. Demonstrators in Tel Aviv blocked the entrances to trains at HaHaganah Station, preventing passengers from boarding or exiting trains.
In the afternoon, protestors clashed with police after breaking onto the Ayalon Highway in an attempt to block the highway.
That evening, about a thousand demonstrators surrounded a hair salon in Tel Aviv where Sara Netanyahu, the wife of Prime Minister Netanyahu, was having her hair done. Police were called to the scene to safely extract Mrs. Netanyahu.
