National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir was chosen to represent the Israeli government at a Europe Day celebration which will be held next week at the EU Embassy in Tel Aviv.
Kan News reports that EU officials were unhappy that the government chose Minister Ben-Givr and worked to change the representative, but the government has so far not complied with their request.
An EU source stated: "The EU delegation to Israel is hosting the annual reception for Europe Day one May 9th. As every year, the delegation asked the Israeli government to honor it by sending a representative of the government to participate in the event."
According to the source, "We have not yet received an official notice from the Foreign Ministry on the matter. We do not support Minister Ben-Gvir's or his party's political opinions. In fact, many of his statements and prejudices negate the values that the European Union represents."
Ben-Gvir's office declined to comment.
