Israelis across the country are celebrating the 56th anniversary of the reunification and liberation of Jerusalem on Jerusalem today, (Thursday), ahead of Jerusalem Day. 3,200 police officers, security forces, and volunteers have been deployed in Jerusalem to protect the tens of thousands of celebrants in Israel's capital. The celebrations will culminate in the annual Flag March to the Western Wall this evening. Many thousands of Israelis have filled King George Street in front of Jerusalem's Great Synagogue, from where the Flag March will begin. Police Commissioner Yaakov Shabtai said: "Thousands of police and Border Police officers will be deployed to strengthen the security and safety of the public in Jerusalem on the day of the city's holiday. As we prepared for the month of Ramadan for Muslims and as we prepared for Holy Light for Christians, we are prepared for the public taking part in Jerusalem Day."
