MK Kathrin Shitrit (Likud) spoke to Israel National News on Wednesday and responded to National Unity Party chairman Benny Gantz’s call for a return to the negotiations at the President’s Residence, aimed at reaching a compromise on the judicial reform. "It's hypocritical and shows a lack of leadership. There was an historical opportunity, 70 years in the making, to bring the coalition and the opposition together, but instead [the opposition] put on a big show until they were winning more seats in the polls," said Shitrit. "The talks were conducted the entire time with the threat that any disagreement would lead to blowing up the talks. What are we supposed to do? Turn the other cheek? We have lost trust in the leaders of the opposition," she added. Commenting on the friction in the anti-government protests which followed the approval in the first reading of the Reasonableness Standard Bill, Shitrit warned, "We are one step away from a political murder that will shock the country." The demonstrations, she said, are intended to "create chaos and set the country on fire". She went on to blast the leaders of the protests, saying, "These are people who were once in the positions of prime ministers and chiefs of staff, is this the way you treat the country that gave you the opportunity to reach your position? Is that what we need right now? To fight each other?" Related articles: How much the Bar Association spent to fight judicial reform? She essentially said, using different words, 'Demonstrate, turn the country upside down, everything is fine, you are allowed to do so.'" At the same time, Shitrit did not say that the Attorney General should be dismissed from her post. "She should go of her own accord, for the simple reason that this government probably does not fit her worldview and her mode of activity. She was elected during the term of previous government, and we didn’t hear anything from her back then."
