The Military Court on Thursday sentenced Ahmed Kunba for the offense of intentionally causing death (equivalent to the crime of murder in Judea and Samaria). Kunba carried out the 2018 shooting attack in Havat Gilad that killed Rabbi Raziel Shevach. The defendant was also convicted for a number of offenses of attempting to cause death, membership, and activity as part of an unlawful association and additional security offenses.
According to the indictment filed by the Military Prosecution, the defendant planned and carried out numerous shooting attacks. Over the course of a few weeks, the defendant and his accomplices observed the places where they wanted to carry out an attack, waited for Jewish civilians to arrive, and then drove in their direction with their car and began shooting at them.
One time, the defendant and his accomplices shot the late Rabbi Shevach, who was driving his vehicle and caused his death. The defendant and his accomplices fled the scene and then set fire to the vehicle they drove in. The arguments regarding the defendant’s sentence are set to be heard on August 1, 2023.
The Military Prosecution is in contact with the family of the late Rabbi Shevach, notifying them of the case advancements and providing them with all the rights they are lawfully entitled to.
