During the anti-government protests on Tuesday, the emergency brake was activated on one of the Israel Railways trains. On Wednesday, Deputy Minister in the Transportation Ministry Uri Maklev (United Torah Judaism) said that he will examine the option of filing a civil suit for the damage caused.
In the Tuesday incident, a passenger pressed the emergency brakes on a train near Hadera, halting its movement. The suspect was arrested.
In his statement, which was a response to a question by another MK, Maklev said, "Israel Railways was prepared in general for the protest activities, and it was aware of them ahead of time." However, he added, "activating an emergency brake is dangerous to all of the passengers and may even cause damage to the train."
Maklev also said that he hopes Israel Police will intervene and bring the person who activated the brake to justice.
"I hope Israel Police will act on this matter and bring to criminal trial the person who was responsible for this," he said. "We are working to preserve the public's safety, and we will examine filing a civil suit on the matter, as Israel Police brings him to justice."
