Israeli President Isaac Herzog is preparing to deliver a historic address before a joint session of Congress today (Wednesday). This is the second time in history that the President of the State of Israel has addressed the US Congress. President Herzog's father Chaim Herzog, the sixth President of Israel, was the first to do so over 35 years ago. During his speech, Herzog will mention three guests who will be with him in the halls of Congress, including Clifton Truman Daniel, the grandson of former US President Harry Truman, who was the first world leader to recognize the newborn State of Israel in 1948. He will also mention Professor Susannah Heschel, the daughter of Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel, one of the most prominent Jewish theologians of the 20th century and a prominent civil rights activist and ally of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Lastly, he will mention Leah Goldin, the mother of Lt. Hadar Goldin, who was murdered when Hamas violated a humanitarian ceasefire during Operation Protective Edge in 2014 and whose body has been illegally held by the terrorist organization in Gaza for the last nine years.
