Kyodo News reports that a Japanese police officer was injured in a ramming attack against the Israeli Embassy in Tokyo on Thursday, when a man attempted to crash his car through police barricades around the building.
Japanese authorities have arrested 53-year-old Shinobu Sekiguchi, a member of a right-wing group, in connection with the attack.
Shortly ahead of the attack, Sekiguchi wrote a post on X criticizing the invasion of the Gaza Strip. He confessed to the charges against him and expressed regret for striking the officer. The officer, a man in his 20s, has sustained injuries that include a broken finger.
The incident comes as the latest in a string of protests held outside Israeli embassies throughout the world to oppose Israel's attacks on Hamas in Gaza.
