Rabbi Daniel Kind, the rabbi of the Givati Brigade, hung a mezuzah in Gaza City in a ceremony attended by Brigade Commander Col. Liron Batito and Rabbi Meir Yehuda Berger, the head of the Hayot Dekedusha school. A mezuzah is a piece of parchment inscribed with specific verses from the Torah, which Jews affix to the doorposts. "I wish the entire Brigade to continue in our special work, in the great mission. G-d willing, we will succeed. There are those who asked if we should make the blessing," Rabbi Kind stated. Because of the halachic uncertainty, instead of reciting the regular blessing the rabbi recited the verse from Psalms: "Blessed are You, O LORD; train me in Your laws." Following the ceremony, the soldiers complemented the rabbi.
