Israel Police on Thursday morning opened an investigation after a two-year-old boy was stabbed in Lod. Near the scene of the stabbing, police located and arrested the suspect, who according to one report was the child's father. The child suffered serious injuries, and medical personnel immediately began treating the child and performing CPR, Kikar Hashabbat reported. These efforts did not succeed and they were later forced to declare the child's death. The incident is being investigated and police are conducting operational searches of the area. Lod Mayor Yair Revivo responded in a statement to the incident, saying, "A tragedy took place today in Lod. A young Jewish man, who is mentally ill, who claimed that he heard a mysterious voice speaking to him, ran like mad towards a baby's stroller in the commercial center in the Ganei Aviv neighborhood, and in front of the mother, stabbed him to death." "The suspect was arrested immediately. This is a horrific tragedy and we are supporting the family, who immigrated just this year to Israel from the former Soviet Union, during this difficult time."
