Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sat down with US President Joe Biden for a meeting in the White House.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sat down on Thursday for a meeting with US President Joe Biden at the White House.

Before the meeting, Prime Minister Netanyahu thanked the President for his support of Israel over the years. "Mr. President we've known each other for 40 years, and you've known every prime minister for 50 years, since Golda Meir. So from a proud Jewish Zionist to a proud Irish-American Zionist - thank you for 50 years of public service and 50 years of support for the State of Israel."

He added: "I look forward to discussing with you today and working with you in the months ahead on the great issues."

Biden responded: "I look forward to it too. By the way that first meeting was with Prime Minister Golda Meir, she had her assistant sit next to me, a guy by the name of Rabin. That's how far back we go, I was only 12"

The two are set to mostly discuss a deal for the release of the hostages in return for a ceasefire. They will discuss the Iranian threat and the American activities against it.

Following the one-on-one meeting, the two leaders will be joined by family members of hostages.

Later in the day, Prime Minister Netanyahu is scheduled to meet with Vice President Kamala Harris.
