Eliav Abuksis and Shahaf Danino were killed in a fatal car accident on Saturday at the Eshel Hanasi Junction in southern Israel, just four months before their wedding. The accident occurred on Route 310 as the couple traveled back from a trip to the Gaza envelope where they picked strawberries with friends. Dashcam footage shows a Jeep illegally crossing a solid separation line to overtake vehicles and colliding head-on with the couple. Three others were moderately injured and another was lightly injured in the accident. MDA paramedic Ori Ohayon related: "It was a very severe car accident. We saw a man trapped and the woman next to the vehicle, both unconscious. We conducted medical examinations, but the injuries were critical and we had to declare them dead at the scene." Noy, a close friend of Shahaf's who, together with her husband, drove in front of the couple, wrote: "I'm crushed, I'm broken. Shahaf was the second half of my heart... we were together minutes before the accident, happy and smiling. You were supposed to get married in four months, I was supposed to be your bridesmaid. Why did this happen to us?" Tami, another friend of Shahaf's, wrote: "Just yesterday we sat, laughed, and spoke about your wedding. You don't deserve such an end. People who don't know you don't know what a giant heart you had."
