A serious antisemitic incident occurred in France when a Jewish couple visiting from Australia, Karen Ivers and her husband, were subjected to death threats and harsh antisemitic remarks by an Irish citizen during a visit to a local supermarket.
The incident, which was recorded on Ivers’ phone camera, went viral on X (formerly Twitter) within hours, garnering approximately one million views.
According to testimony provided to police and published on social media, the encounter began on entirely friendly terms. The assailant, who introduced himself to the couple as “Paddy from Ireland," approached them after noticing that Ivers’ husband was wearing a French soccer shirt and hearing them speaking English. They shook hands and exchanged a few words about various national soccer teams.
However, the atmosphere changed completely when the conversation turned to politics, including Ireland’s policies and its public support for terrorist organizations such as Hamas and Hezbollah. Once criticism was voiced regarding those positions, the Irish man became aggressive and verbally abusive.
At that point, according to the footage, the man directed particularly severe antisemitic remarks at the couple, including the shocking statement: “It’s a pity Hitler didn’t finish the job."
In response to his threatening behavior, Karen took out her phone and began recording the encounter. Upon seeing that he was being filmed, the man escalated his threats and openly told the couple: “I’ll put a bullet in your heads."
Ivers decided to post the full video on social media in an effort to expose the man’s identity, calling on users to help make him famous so that the authorities would hold him accountable.
The incident sparked widespread outrage online and once again highlighted the growing wave of antisemitism being felt across Europe.
