The IDF confirmed that earlier on Thursday, directed by the ISA, it struck in the area of Gaza City and eliminated the terrorist Jamal Mahmoud Abu Kamil, a commander in the Hamas terrorist organization who infiltrated Israeli territory during the October 7th Massacre.
Abu Kamil was also the commander of the Gaza District Police. According to the IDF, throughout the war and in recent months, the terrorist advanced terror attacks against IDF troops and Israeli civilians, and was eliminated from the air in order to remove the threat.

The strike comes a day after IDF Arabic Language Spokeswoman Lieutenant Colonel Ella Waweya published a post discussing Hamas's actions against the residents of Gaza.
According to the IDF and Shin Bet, since the ceasefire took effect in October 2025, the Hamas terrorist organization has intensified the pace of its activities to impose its authority over the residents of the Gaza Strip.
According to Waweya, Hamas is carrying out harsh interrogations and torture operations against the Strip's residents, as part of its desperate attempt to bolster its position. The IDF claimed that these actions are carried out against civilians from all segments of society, do not spare minors or women, and are conducted using public facilities.
The military also noted that the terrorist organization pursues a strategy that involves exploiting civilian buildings, including schools, hospitals, mosques, and government institutions, for military purposes. These facilities are used to carry out arbitrary detentions and systematic torture, not only against political opponents of the terrorist organization Hamas, but also against ordinary residents who are summoned for questioning from time to time. In these cases as well, Hamas employs torture methods that include severe physical violence, ill-treatment, blackmail, psychological threats, prolonged isolation, and psychological harm.
Addressing the residents of the Gaza Strip, Waweya stated: "This severe violence, investigations, and torture operations cause you harm and destroy your lives. The terrorist movement that led the Gaza Strip into destruction and ruin persists in spreading destruction and inflicting harm on you, the residents."
Earlier in the day, the IDF confirmed it struck a company commander from the Hamas military wing in the Khan Yunis area.
According to the IDF, the terrorist planned to execute terror attacks against IDF troops operating in the Gaza Strip. The terrorist was struck in an aerial strike in order to remove the threat to IDF troops.
The military stressed that before the strike, steps were taken to mitigate harm to civilians, including the use of precise munitions and aerial surveillance.
