A 43-year-old Jewish woman was violently attacked in central Berlin after two young people noticed the Star of David she was wearing around her neck, hurled anti-Semitic slurs at her, and then attacked her with a broken glass bottle.
According to police, the attack occurred overnight between Thursday and Friday, just hours before Rosh Hashanah Eve, on Tuerdestrasse in Berlin’s Mitte district. The two suspects approached the woman and made remarks about the Jewish symbol around her neck. The confrontation later escalated, with one of the suspects striking her with a broken bottle.
The woman attempted to defend herself with her hands and was injured, suffering cuts in the attack. After receiving initial treatment at the scene, she was taken to a hospital. The attackers fled before police arrived.
Local police said the incident is being investigated as an anti-Semitic assault. The investigation has been transferred to the Berlin police State Security unit, which handles offenses motivated by political or extremist factors. A manhunt is underway for the two suspects, who have not yet been identified.
