The Egyptian Foreign Ministry has issued a statement in the wake of the visit of National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir to the Temple Mount this morning.

"Egypt conveys its distress at the fact that a senior member of the Israeli government has invaded the area around the Al Aqsa Mosque, accompanied with extremist officials while under the protection of Israeli soldiers."

The Foreign Ministry added that, "Egypt is opposed to any step taken against the status quo in Jerusalem."
