Retired judge Prof. Menachem Finkelstein took up his position today (Thursday) as ombudsman for state representatives in the courts at the Ministry of Justice. Before that, he recently finished his position as chairman of the government inspection committee for the Gilboa jailbreak.

Judge Finkelstein previously served as the Vice President of the Central District Court and as a judge in the Haifa and Central District Courts, and before that, he served as the Chief Military Prosecutor, the Chief Military Prosecutor, the Chief Military Defense Counsel, and as a Judge and Deputy President of the Military Court of Appeals.

The Public Complaints Commission on State Representatives in Courts operates as an independent audit body, whose purpose is to examine the actions of state representatives in courts within the scope of their duties, including the Attorney General's Office, its various units and departments, the police prosecution, proxies, and those authorized by the Legal Adviser to the Government. This is in order to establish a broad and professional critique of the general prosecution system in Israel and to allow any person who considers himself harmed by such an act to submit a complaint to the Commission for inspection and clarification, in a way that will increase public confidence in the prosecution system.
