The two soldiers who held up signs against the IDF's policy of evictions at their swearing-in ceremony Thursday evening have been court-martialled and sentenced to 20 days' jail each.

In addition they will be permanently ousted from the Shimshon Battalion.

Gabi, the brother of one of the soldiers involved told Arutz Sheva: "The soldiers who held up the sign are willing to pay the price and they know that they might go to jail but that does not deter them. This is a brave bunch of soldiers who knew what they were doing and its implications.”

"The soldiers have been demoralized for a long time after IDF officers incite them against their brothers in Shomron (Samaria), forbid them from being guests in their homes and dining there on Sabbaths... They enlisted in order to fight the Arab enemy... instead they are taken on actions against Jews throughout Shomron.”   

The action by the soldiers took place at the swearing-in ceremony of Shimshon Battalion soldiers at the Kotel . Immediately after being sworn in, some of the soldiers raised large signs which said “Shimshon Battalion does not carry out evictions at Homesh.”

Jewish activists have been persistent in their attempts to return to Homesh since it was razed in the 2005 “Disengagement.” The military, on its side, has been evicting these Jews from the ruins time and time again – sometimes in a violent manner, and often on the Jewish Sabbath.
