A female soldier was seriously injured in a terrorist ramming attack in Samaria Tuesday morning.
The attack took place at 10:45 a.m. on Route 60 near the town of Kochav Ya'akov north of Jerusalem, when a terrorist ran down a female soldier roughly 20 years of age.
MDA and United Hatzalah first responders were called to the scene to treat the woman and evacuate her to Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem.
The victim is currently listed in serious condition.
"We arrived quickly at the scene, the patient was lying on the road by the traffic circle, suffering from injuries to her head and upper body," said MDA Paramedic Shmulik David.
"We were told that a vehicle hit her and escaped. We moved her quickly to the ambulance while providing life-saving treatment, stopping the bleeding and providing pain relief, and then transferred her to a mobile intensive care unit that is conveying her to hospital in severe but stable condition."
The terrorist has been shot and eliminated by security personnel who responded to the attack.
An army spokesperson said the attack took place next to a gas station, and confirmed that the victim is an IDF soldier.
"Following the initial report, an assailant arrived at an area adjacent to a gas station in the community of Kokhav Ya'akov in a vehicle and rammed an IDF soldier at the scene. Israel Police forces in the area had begun a pursuit after the assailant and neutralized him."
"As a result of the ramming attack, the soldier was moderately injured and evacuated to a hospital for medical treatment. The soldier’s family has been notified."
United Hatzalah volunteer EMT Erez Shalom, who was the first responder at the scene, relayed: "I was filling up my car at the gas station nearby when I saw the car that [shortly afterwards] perpetrated the ramming in line behind me."
"At some point the driver decided not to go into the gas station, pulled out, and drove into a woman standing nearby. He then drove away from the scene."
"I alerted dispatch to what had happened and rushed over to the woman and began treating her for her injuries. She suffered a serious head injury as well as other injuries to her limbs and cuts and abrasions."
"Other volunteers arrived and assisted me in helping to stabilize her at the scene. When the ambulance arrived she was taken to Shaare Zedek Medical Center for treatment." Head of the Binyamin Region for United Hatzalah Menachem Leff added, "Due to the nature of the incident the Psychotrauma and Crisis Response Unit was dispatched to the scene and treated a number of other young women who witnessed the incident."
United Torah Judaism chairman MK Yitzhak Goldknopf lauded the quick response of security forces at the scene.
"I congratulate the security forces for their quick action which led to the elimination of the terrorist who carried out the ramming attack. I would like to offer my support to the family of the young woman who was injured in the attack, and I pray for her quick and total recovery."
